    Artist statement

I am a multimedia artist and researcher with a need to archive herself. Raised half-nomadically on the oceans and seas of this earth; taught to learn from everyone and everything—osmotically/child-sponge—my process tends to be work in itself, it tends to emulate children’s serious play and to balance itself between the concepts/experience of fiction and reality.

I have many reasons why I’ve made the artworks, and if you ask me, i will be more than happy to answer in excruciating detail. Yet I like to think that it doesn’t matter much why I’ve made something, but that those who engage with my work get something of it. That it leaves traces in them. That they will carry like seeds onto other lands, and other peoples ears and eyes, sharing with them—if in bits and pieces made anew by their unique perspectives—parts of what I made.

I enjoy observing change and documenting it. Most of my work has been interactive and experimental. I resist the need to leave a monolith of my existence. I am called to make ephemeral works, the here now, being the recipient of most human drama. I follow a posthuman philosophy, of inter-being/rhizomatic relationality between creatures; of and/and rather than and/or. Not one truth to be found, but a multiplicity. I deal with the contemporary as Haraway and bell teach: stay with the trouble and love. Find community and spread goodness in which ever form you may.

There may be no stone collectively unturned as a species. But I—as one drop, one grain of sand, one wave in the ocean—find immense joy exploring that which to me is new. Because I enjoy walking into an exhibition and being allowed to touch, make, do, and change. To know myself part of this world and of its making. I deeply care to enhance peoples sense of agency. That has been the core of most collective work I’ve participated in. I believe that to exact change upon the world, we need to change ourselves first, and what best way is there to do that but in company?
